It's been a while

Ah, so it's been a while I suppose. I guess I'll post again now that I've caught up on a week or two of Brennan's blog.

Went on a pubcrawl last Friday. It was a blast. 4 bars, had 1 drink at each and my free shooter at each of the first 3. I think between sweating it out on the dance floor and the sterilizing effects of alcohol I managed to get rid of the little bothersome cold I had. That helped. Met more people, got more numbers... 2/3 boys. :-O But as I've discovered that's about all there is out here, boys, boys and more boys. I mean it's at least a 2:1 ration of guys:girls. Typical of a mining town I know but I still feel bad when I relay to Dan what I did in an evening and most of it centers around guys, though I must say I usually make better friends with guys than I do with girls... There were three guys in particular that I danced with at the bar, one I knew cause he's from Saskatoon so at the first social out here I met him, the other I knew cause he's in the controller's department as well so I've gotten to know him at the zillions of meetings we've had in the past month, and the third is a guy I just met from Nova Scotia. Nice guy, we had a good chat when the bar got too much for us and went for a short walk around the mall to cool off and get out of the noise a bit. Has a girlfriend back home. Yeah... lots of nice people out here but there are also a lot of people that hit on you, flattering yes but also occasionally creepy and awkward.

Saturday was laundry, sweeping and vacuuming then Sunday went to church and met yet another boy! This one started talking to me when I came into church so I sat next to him for the service. Nice guy too. He's from Vernon and is up here working for not an oil company but with all the overtime he puts in it's totally worth it for him. Didn't talk much at church cause the service started. Did some shopping, went to Safeway and then made a trip to IGA. When I reached the checkout at IGA look who's there... the guy I don't remember the name of (I think it was Kevin or Jeff or something... I dunno) from church. He was picking up some ice cream and stuff to go home and make a cake from the mix his girlfriend had sent him for his birthday. Cute idea, sending cake mix cause you can't buy him a cake, I like it. We got to talking again outside in the sweltering heat as I'm sure his ice cream was slowly melting. Gave him my number (mostly cause I don't remember his name!).

In conclusion there are many nice guys out here, you just have to know where to meet them though they seem to pop up everywhere. Despite all the possibilities I have decided I am very happy with my Danny and have no desire to give that up for anyone out here.

Yay, Dan and Liz are coming up for the weekend. That will be nice but now I have to find out what there is to do in this town and I have to figure out when and where a fireworkds display is for Canada day. I'm really excited, it's fun to have people visit and show them where you live even if it is for a short time, it's always too short. :-(

On another note it's HOT out here. This afternoon it was a nice 34 degrees (celsius). They put out warnings at work for anyone working outside to work a lot less hard than usual and drink lots of non-caffeinated fluids. I was inside my air conditioned building quite comfortable and knew the heat only because of the environment Canada gadget on the home page.

Got home today and sat out on the deck for about half and hour on a blanket with a book and my cell phone turned mp3 player. I really need to get a deck chair at some point... Got too hot and came in. Did my "fat burning dance party" workout video since my roommate is out and I didn't have anyone that would make me feel foolish. It's fun, I always end up dripping by the end and it doesn't hurt the next day. I like it. Then I cranked the air conditioner, took a shower and had left over pizza for supper. Got too cold so I turned the a/c off and now here I am. One note, VIP (it's on after CSI on spike Tuesday nights) is a really stupid show but hard to pull away from when you start watching.

Well, I'm off, I guess this is long enough for today. Hope that helps!

Excersized the wallet this weekend but forgot to stretch!

Went to Edmonton for the weekend which was great. It only cost me $10 as I got a ride with a coworker. Got to visit with Amber and had a blast. Before I went down I knew it was going to be largely a shopping trip and sure enough discovered Best Buy, some new shops in West Edmonton Mall and rediscovered many old shops and IKEA. Several hundred dollars later on a lot of stuff I could do without I have returned home with sore feet, stiff neck and arms, and more bags than I could carry by myself. The moral of this story is don't go shopping alone in West Ed. You find a lot more and there's nobody there to convince you that you don't really need something. Not that Amber was much help in that department when she was with me (nor, for that matter, was I much help to her). Either way I had fun, it was totally worth it and I look forward to going back again, this time without quite so much of the shopping!

Missing my man

Dan came up for the weekend which was really nice but way too short. We ended up just watching a lot of movies: X-Men III, Underworld Evolution, Nightmare on Elm Street, and DaVinci Code. I slept through Underworld but everything else I enjoyed. Nightmare on Elm Street always gives me nightmares though. Ironic... I think not... Anyway, due to my missing of people at home I have begun counting down on my msn messenger the number of days until I get to go home. It's not that it's so bad out here or even that I don't like it but just cause I want to be with my friends and particularly I want to have a car again! I'm thinking of getting a second job, I mean, if I'm out here to make money anyways and have nothing better to do with my evenings why not, right? I picked up an application for Rogers Video and plan to drop it off soonish but at the same time Dan deleted Microsoft Office from my computer so I'm having difficulties with the resume. So, I figure they're desperate enough for workers out here I should have no problem securing a reasonably flexible, decent paying, part-time job. We'll see how it goes.

Going to Edmonton this weekend to visit Amber. First stop: IKEA. No particular reason but why not right! Then most of Saturday afternoon while she's at work I'll probably do my shopping at the mall. I can get so much more done on my own it's just not as much fun. Still looking for a pair of brown dressyish shoes or sandals to go with my brown belt. I'll keep my eyes open for other stuff too.

P.S. I like getting snail mail with many thanks so far to Kelly, Dez and Travis I await more, there can never be too much and I have actually gotten good at writing back right away! Bring it on!

FORE!

So today I played my first game of golf of the... wait... of my life! I've played mini golf before but this time I was using a driver... only a driver. We had a meeting this morning and then this afternoon was spent team building with the people from Accounts Payable. We went and played 18 holes of monkey golf. It was fun. Each team had 3-4 players and each player had 1 club: driver, 7 iron, pitching wedge or putter and you took turns (in order)hitting the ball. Our team wasn't the best but we weren't the worst either and we all had a lot of fun!!

Oh, did I tell you? Tuesday I called UPS to send my broken printer back to HP and not only did the lady call me back like she said she would but they picked it up within the hour... after 5:30!! How does that work? I tell you there's something really screwy going on down there.

Dan gets here tomorrow!! Yay! We have a weekend of dates with movies planned: X-Men III and Da Vinci Code are on the agenda. It'll be fun!

Time to go rest my feet, they're killing me after that golf game... er... team building!

Printers and Parties!!

Went to a party Saturday night with a bunch of the coop students out here. It was a great time though I was probably the only sober person there and I came out of it with about 2 dozen mosquito bites. But at the same time I got about 3 or 4 numbers and made some friends, learned some names had some fun. Yeah, it was good. Started at about 8 and at about 12:30 we went to Cowboys to dance up a storm. Man was it good exercise though, I came out of there pretty much dripping but it was fun. Even got to polka with a saskatooner!! Yay home boys (and girls)! Though Dan is still my number one man!! Went to church yesterday and cleaned the apartment. I get kind of jealous that Michelle gets to go home every weekend cause it means I get stuck with the majority of the cleaning but what else would I do with my time. I watched about 2.25 movies on tv so that was more than enough lazing around. The .25 was the tail end of Super Mario Bros. and I watched Houseguest and Runaway Bride (or most of it... I fell asleep on the couch at the beginning for a bit). Then today I FINALLY got my printer. So UPS isn't totally useless, just mostly. Now hopefully they can get the broken one back to HP before they charge me $250 on my VISA card from my deposit. Let's hope all goes well!! So for now I'm content, and I'm making quesadillas tonight so I really can't complain!! I'm off for now though. Later!

WINGS!!

Yay, got to go for wings again last night. I've missed our Tuesday night wing nights. Here cheap wings are on Wednesdays and instead of 25 cents a wing you're looking at 40 cents a wing, and they're by the 12s instead of by the 10s, at least at Paddy McSwiggins which is the one by my house. They didn't have any of my old standbys either, no buffalo and no lemon pepper. And they call themselves a pub... pffft. Anyway, I ended up going with Dutch (mix of hot and bbq and they were really hot) and to cut the heat I got some honey garlic too. They were good but not mug worthy. There were probably about 2 dozen other students there so it was good. They were really friendly and I got to talk to a bunch of them. It's amazing how you connect with people from the same place as you when you're somewhere different. I really got into good conversations with someone else from Saskatoon (actually a town by speedy creek but he goes to the U of S in Mech. Eng.) and another from Regina (it's really too bad.) I also got a boy's number and gave my number to a girl ;) I think I may have also found myself a ride or at least a cab mate down to a party in penhorwood (main student housing) Saturday night so we'll see how that goes. I'm excited though I'm sure there will be a lot of drinking. Don't worry honey, I'll be good and stick to my limit (or at least try really hard! love you!!) This weekend should be an okay one. I look forward to it for a change :D If only stupid UPS would actually deliver my package or at least call me back when they say they will!
