Mmm, sugar

I've had a nasty craving for junk food lately. Wine gums, doughnuts and chocolate have been a serious weekness. It sucks!! I really have to stop giving in cause now I have a reason to try to tone up (or at least try to ditch a little bit of this bulge). Ah well, not likely to go anywhere anyways.

Sunday was nice. After church YWAM (look it up) held a fundraiser lunch by donation. It was really good. I was talking a bit to Brenda, the pastor's wife, and she invited me with her and her husband and everyone else that she spoke to down to the Clearwater river to go floating. It was great fun for a sunny, hot afternoon. We would wade slowly against the current up the river a ways and then just lean back and let the current carry us up again. I got a bit of a sunburn and way too many mosquito bites yet again but it was worth it to get out and enjoy ourselves. It was good excercise too in fighting that current, my calves are still a little sore.

Found out today that the ride I usually get to Edmonton is moving into the same apartment building as I'm in. It's pretty cool actually, he's across the hall and one door over so when we leave Friday we don't have to worry about how we're meeting up as we'll be leaving from the same place. Good deal! He's moving up here because the apartment here was empty anyways and Alcor (the housing people) were going to move him up here in September anyways for the second half of his work term. The good news is that I can probably hitch rides with him in the fall to go visit Dez too. Yay! I wonder if I'll be getting a new roommate in September or if I'll be living alone... it would be pretty quiet around here but I guess it's not like Michelle is ever home as it is. Irfan's apartment is a one bedroom so he know's he'll be on his own but this two bedroom will be pretty big for one... not that I'm complaining or anything, I like where I live and have no desire to move as I don't think I could get my desk out of here without either Dan or Dad to help me with it.

Ok, I suppose that's enough rambling for now. I get to go to Edmonton this weekend and HOME!! the weekend after. I also have to remember while I'm home (or at least while I'm in Ottawa) to buy a birthday present for Austin as that will be coming up in a month. I think it's about time he starts playing with crayons. I kind of miss him but will at least get to see him when I come home in October if not when I come home in a week and a half.

Alright, now it's really time to go. I got two letters last week and have been meaning to write back. I was going to do it Sunday but the floating took up the whole afternoon and then I still had to clean the bathroom and do my laundry. Ok, Dan's on the phone now, I really have to go... really... ok. Bye!

News

I'm being told that I should blog since it's been a while since the last one. I don't really know why, nothing really exciting has happened since I last blogged two weeks ago. Well, I suppose Dan came up last weekend, that was fun. We spent time at home and on Saturday spent a couple of hours at the mall looking at a few pretty expensive items. This is what we bought.

Yep, I'm engaged! Can you believe it! It's about time I suppose but now I actually get to start planning my wedding. Our desired date is July 7th, 2007. I'm pretty excited.

Everyone keeps asking how he proposed so I'll write it here to save more explanation! We bought the ring and came home, put some groceries away and went for a walk on the paths near the mosquito ridden green belt (little forest right by my house). After several dozen mosquito bites we sat on the grass in the shade and he came around behind me kissing me and rubbing my shoulders and he whispers the question in my ear. I had to tell him to get down on one knee and ask where the ring is so he kind of awkwardly goes to one knee and pulls the ring out of it's case in his pocket and asks again. As I say yes he's slipping it on my finger. When we began walking back I was grinning and giving him a hard time about not doing it right and not saying my name or looking me in the eye so he stopped, tenderly held my face in his hands and looked me in the eye and said "Heather, I love you more than anything else on earth, I want to be with you forever, will you marry me?" Of course I said "yes". He's wonderful and treats me so well and I love him so much, there's no way I'm passing him up!

So the end result is, of course, I'm engaged!

Though the wedding isn't until next summer I'm pretty excited about it. We've had the date picked out for a while now and it was intended to be after I graduate but because of this 8 month work term in Fort McMurray it will end up being while I'm in school though I can be done by December if not before that. We even have an offer for a reasonably nice apartment too for beginning of May as we know someone who will be giving theirs up and have lived there all through their schooling. So we know it's affordable and I've been there before and at least it's a start... Anyway, I guess I should get going on with my day. Bye!

Been a long time

Oh boy, it's been quite a while since last I was able to write anything here, or at least since I last thought of it.

Liz and Dan came to visit for the long weekend which was exceedingly appreciated and lot of fun. I love having visitors, it keeps me busy and lets me see my friends. I miss everyone, it would be so nice to have you all up here with me! Anyways, we went to the Oil Sands Discovery Centre which was pretty good entertainment for six bucks. Got to sit in the drivers seat of a heavy hauler and play with bitumen. If you don't know what that is go to Syncrude's website and look it up. www.syncrude.ca

Then we took Liz to see the reclaimed land and went on a nice hike. It was awesome if only we could have gotten rid of the bug factor. Way too many mosquitoes and bees, wasps and other stripy things. It kind of ruins a nice walk when you're always avoiding or swatting at bugs. We also took her to the "giants of mining" exhibit out by syncrude which shows off the big equipment used in their old drag line operation. This shows how big the stuff was as this is only the wheel part of the bucketwheel reclaimer.

It was good fun and they both had to leave far too soon. Dan returns this weekend though so it's not all that bad, YAY! After they left I went down to Roger's video and rented the whole first season of CSI, kept me busy and wasn't too expensive since they now have old releases on 3 for $9 and it was on 3 rentals.

Last weekend I went paintballing. It was good fun. There was a good group of us, 20 people showed up, 18 guys and 2 girls. I rediscovered my cowardice in the game but still had a good time. I tend to spend a lot of time in hiding but that's ok, I only got hit once as a result of it. I made some brownies for the bbq before paintballing that went over pretty well thanks to a recipe Liz brought me. I even substituted 1/3 of the butter with unsweetened apple sauce and people still liked it. There is Liz's theory at work that you can substitute up to 3/4 of the fat with applesauce and it doesn't make much different. Made you feel better about eating a chocolaty brownie. I didn't tell the guys this until after they had demolished the plate of them though!

After that I had finished CSI so I went and rented the first season of scrubs, which I already finished yesterday. It was stupid but pretty funny considering! It keeps me busy, the only problem is that it's busy in front of the tv all the time. Oh well, at least it's something.

Michelle is out with friends so much lately it's like I have the place to myself, especially the nights she sleeps over there. It's nice to have the place to myself but at the same time it's really lonely. What can ya do.

Finally finished Pride & Prejudice yesterday. It was actually really good though I found at times it moved a little slow. So today I started on Deception Point. My goal is to finish it by the weekend. We'll have to see how that goes. Anyway, it's bedtime now so I must go. Take care everyone and keep in touch!

Love ya!
